Just playing around a little in PS CS5 today. This is a plank from the boardwalk leading to a birding tower. It is a bit red by nature and water made the color rich. I have two layers, the original wood is shaping the frame. The top layer is the same but treated with High Pass filter. That made it grey in colors. I made a twirl on that layer too.  Layerstyle Multiply to get colors in the twirl.

To finish of  I connected the two images with Layerstyle Inner and Outer Glow on the top layer. Blending mode Dissolve!
I guess that is about it!  Btw, it is the same plank I used for my own entry today.

  1. Very clever, Monica ... I love working with wood grain and this is just outstanding. I am not familier with Layer Style ... what software were you using? Very effective, I must say ...
